Do you have an unhealthy relationship with food?

Updated: Jul 4, 2022

Eating disorders like any mental health issue, affect people in different ways. You might eat lots one day or less another. But that doesn’t mean you have an eating problem. People have different eating habits and that's O.K.

But if you’re focusing a lot on controlling what or how much you eat, or if you have urges to eat and then make yourself sick, these might be signs you have a problem. Here are some warning signs to look out for:

• spending a lot of time worrying about your weight and body shape

• avoiding socialising when you think food will be involved

• eating very little food

• making yourself sick or taking laxatives after you eat

• exercising too much

• having very strict habits or routines around food

• changes in your mood such as being withdrawn, anxious or depressed

You may also notice physical signs, including:

• feeling cold, tired, or dizzy

• pains, tingling, or numbness in your arms and legs (poor circulation)

• feeling your heart racing, fainting, or feeling faint

• problems with your digestion, such as bloating, constipation or, diarrhea

• your weight being very high or very low for someone of your age and height

• not getting your period or other delayed signs of puberty

Taking the first step towards recovery is scary and challenging. Although the act of seeking help might seem straightforward to your friends and family, it can be very stressful and confusing. But if there are any points above that are ringing true and you are looking for help, then please contact us and we can discuss how counselling sessions can help you. We work with clients all across Gloucestershire. Our clinic is based in Malmesbury, we are conveniently located between Cirencester (25mins) and Tetbury (10mins).
